Radiocapitellar arthroplasty – a registry study on indications, types and short-term survival in the Netherlands

Research proposal abstract
Radiocapitellar osteoarthritis of the elbow can be either primary as a first sign of elbow osteoarthritis, or secondary to trauma, infection or previous radial head arthroplasty surgery. Therefore, it may be the treatment of choice in high-demand young patients, or a postponement for total elbow arthroplasty which has more restrictions after implantation.
At the moment, two arthroplasty models are available to address radiocapitellar osteoarthritis. Both of them are not frequently used, and therefore most available research is performed by design centers.
The aims of the study are:
1. What are the indications, used implants and used surgical techniques/approaches for registered radiocapitellar arthroplasty in the Dutch Arthroplasty Register?
2. What are the previous surgeries registered in the Dutch Arthroplasty Register?
3. When and what type of revision surgeries of radiocapitellar arthroplasty are performed, as registered in the Dutch Arthroplasty Register?
Using data from the national arthroplasty registry all radiocapitellar arthroplasties performed in the Netherlands since 2014 would be included, as registration has started since. An implant survival analysis would be performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The characteristics such as indications, used implants, techniques and previous surgery will be reported as descriptive data, as groups probably will not
be sufficiently large to perform more statistical analyses.
